Southern Leyte was originally founded on May 22, 1959 with the Capital City of Maasin. The government of the province is composed of the Governor Roger Mercado, Sheffered Lino Tan as the Vice Governor. Consisting an area of 1,798.61 km2 having an area of Rank 64th out of 80. Population in total is 399,137 consisting a rank of 62nd / 80. The province is composed of 18 Municipalities and 500 Baranggays.
